FIRST ALLOWED TRACK 1 PATENT APPLICATION PROSECUTED BY S&S

The USPTO recently instituted a program for accelerated examination, referred to as "Track 1." The USPTO's press release describing the program can be found
here. The goal of this program is to expedite prosecution of cases to a final decision within 12 months of filing. Shumaker & Sieffert is proud to announce that the
first patent allowed under this new program was prosecuted by attorneys at Shumaker & Sieffert. Dennis Crouch
wrote an article on Patently-O summarizing the Track 1 program and the prosecution history of this patent.

KENT SIEFFERT GIVES PRESENTATION ON THE AMERICA INVENTS ACT

On Oct. 11, 2011, Shumaker & Sieffert principal,
Kent Sieffert, delivered a presentation to the Minneapolis chapter of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) on the America Invents Act, recently signed into law by President Obama. Kent presented on the significant changes to US patent law brought about by the Act, as well as potential strategies for patent practitioners and portfolio managers as the law becomes effective over the next 18 months.

University of Minnesota, Morris 2011–12 Joseph J. Latterell Memorial Visiting Alumna. As the Latterell Visiting Alumna, Rogers visited the Morris campus and met with students and faculty of the Division of Science and Mathematics on October 25-26, 2011. AIPLA Spring Meeting 2011 in San Francisco. They attended many interesting sessions and had the pleasure of reconnecting with colleagues and meeting attorneys from across the country and around the world. Brian also had the opportunity to assist Mr. Christopher Palestro of Hewlett-Packard Company in preparing a paper in support of Mr. Palestro's presentation at a joint session between the Electronic and Computer Law Committee and the Special Committee on Standards and Open Source regarding open source software transactional due diligence.
