Professional Experience

Darcy Shukla is the President and CEO, and Executive Committee Chair of Shumaker & Sieffert. She is a registered U.S. patent attorney focusing on patent preparation and prosecution, and strategic counseling on patent portfolio development. She specializes in electrical, software, computer networking, and data storage technologies.

Darcy originally began working with Shumaker & Sieffert in 2003 as a Technical Specialist and continued to work with the firm as a Law Clerk while earning her law degree at the University of Minnesota Law School. Prior to rejoining Shumaker & Sieffert as a Patent Attorney in 2010, Darcy was an associate at Faegre & Benson, now Faegre Drinker, where her practice focused on patent litigation including pre-suit infringement investigations.

During law school, Darcy was a student director and competition team member for the University of Minnesota Law School Intellectual Property Moot Court and received recognition for Best Appellee Brief in the AIPLA-sponsored Giles S. Rich Moot Court Competition, Northeast Region. Darcy was also a judicial extern for the Honorable Joan N. Ericksen of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Darcy is a faculty member for the Management of Technology (MOT) graduate degree program in the Technology Leadership Institute at the University of Minnesota’s College of Science and Engineering, where she has taught courses in Managing Intellectual Property since 2019. Darcy has coordinated the annual AIPLA Women in IP Community Service Event for St. Paul, MN since 2016.
