Professional Experience

Ryan is a registered patent attorney focusing on patent prosecution in the medical device and mechanical arts. Ryan began working with Shumaker and Sieffert in 2005 as a Technical Specialist, and he continued to work with the firm during law school as a law clerk.

Prior to working as a Technical Specialist, Ryan studied the tissue biomechanics of pulmonary vasculature as a research assistant in the UW-Madison Department of Biomedical Engineering. Ryan also has experience developing ICU ventilators at Datex-Ohmeda (now GE Medical Systems) and performing laboratory work at the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Biophysics Research Institute. During law school, Ryan also worked as a summer associate at the law firm of Fish & Richardson and received recognition for the Best Appellee Brief in the AIPLA-sponsored 2009 Giles S. Rich Moot Court Competition, Midwest Region.
