Having a strong interest in cutting-edge technologies, Rohan K. Gupta pursued STEM courses and programs throughout his scholastic youth, including the Waksman Institute Summer Experience (WISE) in Microbiology at Rutgers University, the American Invitational Mathematics Examination for the International Mathematics Olympiad, and NJ Governor’s School at Stockton University. Rohan began his professional career developing software in C++/Java for small businesses and research institutions while attending the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon. Seeing an opportunity in the legal profession and in government, Rohan entered the Franklin Pierce School of Intellectual Property at the University of New Hampshire and received a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
During his legal career, Rohan has secured and monetized Intellectual Property (IP) rights for multi-national corporations, large universities, and small businesses including individuals. Rohan has experience protecting innovations in a variety of technologies, such as Facial Recognition, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Natural User Interfaces, Financial Technologies and Payment Systems, Enterprise/Cloud Computing, Cryptography and Encryption Systems, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Devices, Network Management, Data Storage Systems, Internet Security, Search Engines, Operating System Components, Mobile Devices, Wireless Systems, and other cutting-edge technologies. Rohan has analyzed IP issues involving Software Development Toolkits as well as Technical Standards including Internet Standards and Encryption Standards. Rohan also has drafted and reviewed contracts and related documents for Software/Hardware transactions.
Prior to joining Shumaker & Sieffert, Rohan worked at a law firm while serving as Outside Patent Counsel to a large technology firm from 2011-2018. In this capacity, Rohan prepared and prosecuted several hundred patents and worked with in-house counsel to monetize their patent portfolio. Rohan has provided various work-product in support of in-house counsel, including opinions regarding client products and claim charts analyzing competitor products for potential infringement.
