Shumaker & Sieffert seeks 1L students with a science or engineering undergraduate degree who are interested in patent prosecution for a 1L Internship through the Facebook 1L Diversity Internship program.  We are excited to offer one 1L student a 10-week paid summer associate position in our Woodbury, MN office for the summer of 2021, with the last two weeks working at our corporate partner Facebook.  Please submit a cover letter, resume, undergraduate transcripts, law school transcripts, (and graduate school transcripts if applicable), and writing sample to recruiting@ssiplaw.com.  We encourage submissions as soon as possible.  (The position may be partly or entirely remote, depending on health guidance at the time.)  


Program Description

Facebook’s 1L Diversity Internship Program gives diverse rising 2L students the opportunity to gain substantive legal experience at a law firm and at Facebook Legal. Interns will spend up to eight weeks at a law firm and an additional two weeks at Facebook. The law firm will employ the intern for the full duration of the program (up to ten weeks) and the intern is seconded at Facebook Legal for the last two weeks of the program.

The Facebook portion of the program will be remote and interns will have the following opportunities:

  • In-house legal projects (e.g., shadowing meetings and drafting/reviewing work product, etc.)
  • Practice Area Seminars conducted by our in-house counsel that highlight the issues that Facebook Legal handles
  • Mentoring by Facebook in-house counsel
  • Virtual Social Events
