Professional Experience
Spencer is a former engineer and current U.S. patent attorney with expertise in patent law, systems automation, engineering program management, compliance, and software engineering.
Prior to joining Shumaker and Sieffert in 2023, Spencer served in a variety of technical and legal roles. Joining Motorola in 1996, Spencer’s technical career was spent in support of hi-tech manufacturing, advancing over time from IT and helpdesk support at Motorola, then joining Sun Microsystems in 1999 and serving in roles including test engineering, systems integration, and ultimately program management with responsibility for ISO 9001 compliance.
Transitioning to the practice of law in 2006, Spencer’s legal career is focused on all aspects of the preparation and prosecution of patents (U.S. and foreign), with a specialization on the boundary interface between hardware and software, including cloud integration and AI.
