Shumaker & Sieffert is pleased to welcome new patent attorneys James Baldwin, Guanyao Cheng, Rohan Gupta, James (Jim) Paige, Christopher (Chris) Tebow, as well as new patent agents Elizabeth (Liz) Gallo and Teresa Zhao.

With backgrounds in computer engineering or computer science, James, Guanyao, Rohan, and Jim will contribute to our sizeable team specializing in this area.  Teresa has an academic background in robotics engineering and will also contribute to the computer engineering team. S&S is also expanding our technical experience in the optical arena with the addition of Chris and Liz.

Prior to law school, James worked as an electrical engineer at an aerospace defense contractor designing control systems for life support systems.   James has directed his law practice toward drafting and prosecuting patent applications focused on electrical and electromechanical systems, computer software, industrial and vehicular control systems, and data analysis and data processing.

S&S is pleased to welcome Guanyao back to the firm after his hiatus at a Silicon Valley firm.  Guanyao has extensive experience prosecuting and counseling in the electronics, software, computer hardware, and telecommunication arts.

Liz has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and worked for over 14 years at 3M patenting innovations in the optical and materials science fields.

Rohan brings over a decade of experience as outside counsel to one of the world’s largest software companies.  He has experience protecting innovations in a variety of technologies, such as Facial Recognition, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Enterprise/Cloud Computing, Cryptography and Encryption Systems, and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Devices.

Jim brings over a decade of patent prosecution experience in the electronics and medical device arts, having practiced at both large general practice and boutique patent firms.

Chris has as Ph.D. in Optics and experience as an application engineer at 3M developing optical products for displays.  He specializes in the optical, electrical, and software fields.

Teresa is a recent graduate of Northwestern University School of Law with a B.S in robotics engineering.  Teresa will also contribute her experience in software, computing, and the telecommunication arts to our computer engineering team.
